MICHAEL PADO B. Science, MBA, FSA, MAAA
Mike Pado is the Executive Vice President of Aurigen Capital Limited.
Prior to joining Aurigen USA, Mr. Pado served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of SCOR Global Life Re Insurance Company where, from 2009 to 2011, he developed and raised the company’s brand and presence in the US market, expanded its product line and strengthened the organization’s infrastructure to support current business and future growth initiatives.
Mr. Pado began his career in various actuarial roles with Travelers Life & Annuity and Mutual of New York. In 1982, he joined Coopers & Lybrand as a consulting actuary supporting their Actuarial and Benefits Consulting practice. He joined Swiss Re Life & Health in 1985 where he led the organization’s strategy to grow COLI capacity as well as a GMDB and GMLB reinsurance capability, gained extensive experience in designing back office infrastructure and successfully led the Individual Life Profit Centre during the M&G Re integration with Swiss Re. Mr. Pado joined AXA Re Life in 1998 as Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer. In 2000, he was appointed President and Chief Underwriting Officer. There he successfully built and managed a complex business operation centered on the variable annuity reinsurance market. The organization delivered strong financial results with premium volumes growing from US$22 million to US$175 million within four years.
In 2003, Mr. Pado formed Convergence Re LLC, a consulting firm which provided asset-based reinsurance solutions to institutional clients. The following year, he was recruited to lead new business development at Transamerica Reinsurance and joined the organization as Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing to help the company strengthen and expand its market focus. In 2006, Mr. Pado joined XL Life Reinsurance of America as President. Between 2006 and 2008, XL Life Re successfully acquired twenty new clients, grew premium volumes to US$30 million and tripled its employee base to support the growth of the organization.
Mr. Pado served on the Board of Governors for the American Council of Life Insurers’ (ACLI) Global Financial Leadership Forum and more recently served as a member of ACLI’s CEO Steering Committees for Retirement and Financial Security and Financial Services. He has also served on their Reinsurance Committee for a number of years. In addition, he has served on other committees with industry associations including, Life Insurance Marketing Research Association, National Association of Variable Annuities and Reinsurance Association of America. He is also a certified arbitrator with ARIAS US, a not-for-profit organization that promotes improvement of the insurance and reinsurance arbitration process for the international and domestic markets.
Mr. Pado graduated from Rutgers University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and received his Masters in Business Administration from Rutgers Graduate School of Management in 1994. He became a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries in 1984 and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1990. He also holds the Certified Enterprise Risk Analyst designation from the Society of Actuaries.
