ALAN RYDER

Alan Ryder is the President and Chief Executive Officer of both Aurigen Capital Limited and Aurigen Reinsurance Company.

Before founding Aurigen, Mr. Ryder served as the President of Employers Reassurance Canada Management Services, Inc. where, from 1997 through 2006, he established the Canadian branch of Employers Reassurance Corporation and developed its business to the third largest in Canada within five years.

Mr. Ryder began his career in 1980 as a pricing actuary with Munich Reinsurance Company in Toronto. In 1982, he joined Mooney Associates and consulted to life insurance clients on product development, financial reporting, taxation and management issues. He joined Canadian General Life Insurance Company in 1984 as Actuarial Vice President and Appointed Actuary. He was subsequently promoted to Chief Financial Officer and his responsibilities came to include actuarial, financial, treasury, accounting, claims, data processing and human resources functions. In 1988, he joined Winterthur Swiss Insurance Company and established, in the US, Winterthur Life Re Insurance Company, where he served as President. Under his leadership, the company grew premium volumes to in excess of US$200 million within three years.

In 1993, he was a founding partner and President of Insource Limited, which provided broadly based business development services to financial services industries worldwide. His consulting focus was to assist insurance and reinsurance companies with market assessment and strategic planning. He also consulted in the areas of surplus management, mergers and acquisitions, marketing, product development, valuation of liabilities and asset/liability management. His reinsurance consulting assignments included the development and implementation of new market development plans for Royal Bank of Canada (global reinsurance), Reinsurance Group of America (Asia/Pacific reinsurance), North American Life (US retrocession) and Revios (US reinsurance).

Mr. Ryder is the Chairman of the Committee on Reinsurance of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association. He is also Chairman of the 2011 Canadian Reinsurance Conference, the largest annual gathering of life reinsurance professionals in the world. He currently serves on the advisory board of Q Re Holdings LP, and the board of directors of its operating subsidiary S Re Ltd, a Bermuda based property/casualty reinsurance group. He previously served as a member of the board of directors of Automated Benefits Corp., a developer of software solutions for the insurance industry.

He graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1980 with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree and completed his professional training in 1982, being admitted as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
