Stephen Cooley is the Chief Administrative Officer of Aurigen Reinsurance Company.

Before founding Aurigen, Mr. Cooley was a member of the senior management team of Employers Reassurance in Canada. He joined the Employers Reinsurance Group as an underwriting consultant in 2001, and, later that year, accepted the position of Vice President, Underwriting of Employers Reassurance Canada Management Services, Inc. He served in that capacity through 2006, initially overseeing the underwriting of life and critical illness business, and ultimately assuming additional responsibility for the claims and reinsurance administration functions within the Canadian operation. While with ERC he led initiatives to develop a North American critical illness insurance underwriting manual and oversaw projects that improved the quality of facultative underwriting service.

In 1989, Mr. Cooley began his insurance career as an underwriter with The Sovereign Life Insurance Company in Calgary. In 1993 he joined RBC Insurance where he underwrote life and disability insurance risks and provided field marketing support. In 1997 he was promoted to Chief Underwriter for RBC Insurance, with responsibility for the development and implementation of the company’s underwriting philosophy.

Mr. Cooley graduated from Dalhousie University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He became a Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting in 2004.
